Go fly fishing now with Michael Vetters, your experienced personal guide
I'm Michael Vetters, a fly fishing guide based in Gore, on the banks of the Mataura River and in one of the world's best trout fishing areas. I've recently set up a base in Te Anau to bring you, my valued clients, a wider range of unique water ways to fish. Fiordland has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and fly fishing amongst the unspoiled native New Zealand bush can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience second to none!
I hope I will be able to help you enjoy fly fishing in this beautiful part of new Zealand.
With my experience and determination to find the best fishing New Zealand has to offer, I will guide you to the best spots both Fiordland and Southland have to offer!
I have extensive knowledge of most rivers in Southland and of the surrounding regions. Many rivers are close by, such as the Mararoa, Waikaia, Whitestone, Eglinton, Hollyford and the Waiau to name a few with my personal favourites being the Mataura, Oreti and Pomahaka rivers.
I will PERSONALLY guide you so that I can guarantee a top quality service.
Matching the hatch on the famous Mataura river can be challenging to say the least, and for this you can't beat the knowledge of a true local guide. The selective feeding wild brown trout rise readily to the day time mayfly, midge and evening caddis hatches. However, the Mataura river, although sometimes frustrating, can offer a most enjoyable days fishing and I will show you how to leave with a smile on your face.
Sight fishing for wild rainbow and brown trout in the gin clear backcountry rivers can be an exhilarating experience during summer. Spring creeks offer even more of a challenge with accurate casting and very long leaders required for success.
If you are interested in exploring our local waters, then day trips and overnight trips can be arranged to most of the rivers in Fiordland and Southland. Please read on for further details or contact me now!

Due to New Zealand's sometimes harsh climate there may be a time when, for safety reasons, fly fishing is not possible. If such a day does occur then that day's deposit will be refunded.
